The caste system started with the Bhagavad Gita which is the holy text of the Hindu religion. The Bhagavad Gita states that each caste is made to do a different tasks. For example, the works of the Brahmins are peace, self-harmony, forgiveness, and faith. While the Kshatriyas are known for their generosity and noble leadership. As the years passed, the caste system was said to get out of control and ruined individuals social status, therefore it is now banned today in India. But believe it or not, people do still use the caste system which creates controversy in the country. We chose this topic because we think it would be interesting the various opinions towards the caste system.

THE CASTE SYSTEM - BRAHMINS, KSHATRIYAS, VAISHYA, AND SUDRAS. ALSO THE UNTOUCHABLES ARE SO LOW, THEY AREN'T EVEN COUNTED ON THE CASTE SYSTEM A MAJORITY OF THE TIME.

Wherever you are placed on the caste system is determined the family you were born into.

These two pictures are connected together because they describe the relationship between all of the levels in the caste system. Over to the left, these Indian villagers have the short end of the stick because they're in the lower level of the caste system and will not "be released" until lifetimes later. While on the right, these rich Indian folks have no problem with being in the upper level of the caste system because they are living a nice lifestyle. As one can see, these major differences in how people live create major conflict.

This conversation about the conflict of caste systems is played on a Sunday morning in the beautiful city of Bombay between two women; Vanita, a rich modern Indian lady, and Lakshmi, a poor traditional farm lady.

  • Lakshmi: WOW, I'm so tired I've been working in the farm alllll day and night!

  • Vanita: UGH I'm exhausted as well, I just went shopping for my wedding and I couldn't find a ring that fit my standards.

  • Lakshmi:....wow, your life must be tough....*rolls eyes*

  • Vanita: I just want everything to be perfect that day.

  • Lakshmi: If only I was lucky enough to have those problems...

  • Vanita: You know, I went through what you are going through right now. It took a couple lifetimes to get where I am today.

  • Lakshmi: It seems like the work is never-ending.

  • Vanita: Don't worry, if you work hard on the farm in this lifetime, soon enough you will be raising higher on the levels of the caste system. The reason I am here is because I have previously worked hard. It will be okay soon Lakshmi.

  • Lakshmi: Thanks Vanita, I'll see you soon.. good luck finding your ring, I hope to hear about your grand wedding soon. :)
